Our story
People living with ALS have to learn and share what’s working at the speed of ALS. ALStogether brings them, and the people in their lives, into one place to do that.
How it started
ALS moves fast, and it’s incurable. But the groups and resources for people living with it were scattered, which made it hard to connect in real time.
Brooke Eby and her colleagues brought that problem to their executive team at Salesforce: the ALS world needs to move as quickly as the tech world. The answer was “Go.” Denise Dresser, Slack’s CEO at the time, and Mark Sullivan, President of Regulated Industries, pooled their resources and built a team to make it happen. Technical experts and business leaders took calls every weekend, for no reason other than to help the ALS community.
The result is ALStogether, a community in Slack that works like a digital headquarters for ALS. Have a question about adaptive equipment, or just heard about a new clinical trial? Open Slack and ask people who get it. Channels cover everything from genetic variants to veterans to financial tips.
Today ALStogether is a program of ALS Network. Read about the integration.
Who keeps it running
Chanel Reaves and Michael Breeden worked with Brooke at Salesforce and have been part of ALStogether from the very start. Today they’re the community’s admins and moderators, and they work with ALS Network to keep the platform going.
The heart of ALStogether is its members. They welcome newcomers, answer each other’s questions and keep the conversation going.
Remembering Brooke Eby
“I didn’t choose ALS, but I did choose to get loud, and be irreverent about it.”
Brooke founded ALStogether to give people a place to belong. Her honesty, humor and determination changed how countless people understand ALS, and this community carries her work forward.
